Three Pillars of Moisture
Want the best face oil? Look for the Three Pillars.
Your skin is made up of both oil and moisture and it needs both to function optimally. According to dermatologists, a good moisturiser will always contain three key pillars- Emollients, Occlusives and Humectants.
WHAT ARE… EMOLLIENTS?
Emollients are moisturisers that soften and condition the skin without adding moisture to it. They do this by filling in the gaps between the cells with their essential fatty acids, vitamins, and anti-inflammatory properties, to improve the appearance of dry patches and make the skin more flexible. They soothe dry skin and work particularly well on conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
WHAT ARE… OCCLUSIVES?
Similar in some ways to emollients, occlusives focus more on preventing the skin from losing moisture by forming a protective film over the epidermis. They are mainly oil based and while they don’t increase the moisture levels of the skin, they can help prevent water reserves from being drained by external stressors.
WHAT ARE… HUMECTANTS?
Humectants add moisture by drawing water molecules from the environment towards the epidermis to help rehydrate the skin’s surface. They help to increase the amount of water within the skin and store it away until it is needed, making humectants a great moisturizer for most skin types.
Rebalance Face Oil is a combination of ultra-hydrating ingredients that ensure you’ve got the Three Pillars of Moisturisation covered. The light ingredients such as jojoba oil, olive squalane, sweet almond oil and hemp seed oil mimic the texture of sebum, help rebuild the lipid layer and absorb into the skin fast; some with double duty capabilities of both humectants and emollients. The heavier oils such as cold-pressed avocado oil and rosehip oil act as both emollients and occlusives, both softening the skin and trapping humectants and botanical extracts onto the skin.
